A hometown celebration

Two celebrations, one by the Mediterranean and one at home in the Pacific Northwest.
We would be honored to celebrate with you at one, or both.

How it began

Our Story

Jake and Salena have been together for more than ten years.

Their story began in Connecticut, where they met while teaching middle school band and orchestra. What started among music stands and rehearsal schedules has grown into a decade of music, travel, and adventures side by side.

Since then, they have had the privilege of seeing the world together. They have traveled from coast to coast, quite literally, driving all the way across the country when they moved to Oregon in 2018. Their adventures have taken them to Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, England, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Czechia, Austria, Italy, Spain, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and Japan, collecting stories (and passport stamps) everywhere they go.

The proposal

Tokyo, 2025

In 2025, Jake and Salena got engaged in Japan, at the Tanabata Festival at Zojoji Temple in Tokyo. Tanabata celebrates a love that endures, no matter the distance or the time apart, and beneath the glow of the festival lanterns, it was the perfect night to promise forever.

Now we can’t wait for our greatest adventure yet, and to celebrate with everyone who can join us as we begin our forever together.

Why Spain?

A family story, coming full circle

Jake and Salena have always shared a love of travel. In 2023, they journeyed through Spain with Jake’s parents on a heritage tour, tracing the family’s roots. Along the way, they came upon this old church on the cliffs of Tossa de Mar and learned something remarkable: generations ago, Jake’s own family was married within these very walls.

There could be no more perfect place for us to say “I do.”

For our Spain guests

Getting to Tossa de Mar

Guests traveling to Spain will book their own flights and accommodations. Here is a starting point.

Flying in

Tossa de Mar sits on the Costa Brava in Catalonia. The closest airports are Girona (GRO), about 40 minutes by car, and Barcelona (BCN), with the most international flights, about an hour and a half away.

Getting around

Buses run from Barcelona and Girona to Tossa, and a rental car works well too. Once you’re in town, almost everything is walkable, including the ceremony and reception.

Where to stay

Tossa has hotels and Airbnb rentals close to the old town and the beach. July is high season on the Costa Brava, so we recommend booking early.

Coming to everyone who RSVPs yes

Salena’s Travel Binder

Salena is putting together one of her legendary Travel Binders, full of activity ideas for the days leading up to the ceremony: coves and beaches, day trips, food, and the best of the Costa Brava.

Questions & Answers

Can I come to both celebrations?

Absolutely, and we’d love that. Just RSVP for each one separately.

Can I bring a plus-one?

Yes! Every guest is welcome to bring a plus-one. You can add their name on the RSVP form.

Do I need to book my own travel to Spain?

Yes. Guests coming to Spain arrange their own flights and accommodations. Everyone who RSVPs yes will receive Salena’s Travel Binder with ideas for the days before the ceremony.

What should I wear?

Attire is Summer European Formal. Think light suits in linen or cotton, and flowing dresses or elegant jumpsuits in breathable fabrics. For Spain, keep in mind that Vila Vella is a hilltop medieval village with steep cobblestone paths, so comfortable shoes are a good idea.
